How to Foster Musical Citizenship During a Pandemic? The Case of El Sistema Greece

The use of expressions such as “emergency”, and “crises” appear in both literature about the covid-19 pandemic and the significant migration from the Middle East to Europe. This communication will connect those two study objects through an art-based education project, El Sistema Greece, that provides free music education to underage refugees. The aim is to investigate how that institution dealt with a disruption such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on qualitative data, I will look at two moments in the pandemic: the lockdown and the transition to a presential education, still in the shadow of social distancing.
