Description
The general purpose of this paper was to call our attention to a constitutive intertwinement between the body, affectivity and meaning. To do so, it resumes a phenomenological reading of the Freudian theory of drives and affects undertaken by Merleau-Ponty in his Phenomenology of Perception and measures some consequences for an understanding of intentionality and of embodied signs. In the light of such reading, confronted with and re-interpreted through the theory of Binswanger’s existential analysis – psychoanalysis rediscovers the relational dimension in which the body as affective awareness and embodied signs is constitutively located.
